Recently we had the opportunity to sit down and discuss linking strategies with the experts over at all-seo.com
The session provided some great tactics to help site owners increase their presence on the internet. The nice folks over at alta-publishing.com provided a transcript of the discussion and the following text includes excerpts from the conversation.

You hire an expert for just about everything else in your business and so you wouldn’t hand the bookkeeping responsibility over to someone on a part time basis that has four or five other help store, I mean it just doesn’t make sense.
It is probably ineffective entirely. Beyond that I would suspect maybe you can tell me if this is true I would think it would be a rare person inside a typical organization, a typical let us mid or small business, they would have the skills and the day-to-day insight into working with link strategy even as a part of a bigger web strategies. Is that correct?
It is absolutely correct I mean people don’t even understand the basic premise of SEO linking which has nothing to do with visibility type linking or advertising type links. We are talking about links that are really purely for search engine optimization benefit and it is a whole different animal as to where they get placed? How they get placed and there is lot of cautionary rules that you need to follow. So I mean I have one client right now that has over 40 EDU links and we all withdraw our hands and say haa! Those are wonderful but they did is they had an in house person do it and their entire link consists of an image with no tax, nothing. So in effect they do have a portion of the link value but as far the anchor to the key text that could certainly help them out in search it is building page or anchor is building credibility, their link is doing probably 20% or 15% of what it could be doing if they had been formatted correctly from the beginning.
